Locomotive Update - Summer 2003
Back to News
Class 20 D8098 (20098)
D8098 has continued to run in service this spring/summer and as usual is pretty reliable. The loco was given a thorough 'D' exam during the spring period before the main running season started which allowed us to sort out lots of little niggles and problems. The buffers were all changed for some spares we had and the old ones are being sent back to Oleo for refurbishment. We also cleared all the accumulated junk that had been "stored" years ago in the nose end. The loco could really do with a repaint but time and shed space have precluded that this year.
Class 31 D5830 (31563)
The 31 has seen front line action for most of the summer after having it's 'D' Exam completed during the Spring. The north cab's repaint has been slowly progressing during working evenings in the summer. The loco is sporting a new set of batteries this year.
Class 47 D1705 (47117)
Our Class 47 has been out of service this year as it required some repair work and a repaint and we had to wait for space at Rothley Carriage & Wagon Shed. After a long wait, we finally got in during August and made a start on stripping the paintwork down, filling and sanding the bodysides, and attending to the leaks and other problems. Unfortunately an electrical problem has shown up and some rewiring is now required. The loco's repaint will see it retain its current two-tone green livery.
